Naming a new cat is one of the best parts of getting your first pet. And if your feline has a lovely dark coat then finding the right name will just bring out their personality further. Whether you want something a little mysterious and chic or cute and funny, there are black cat names galore.
One moment a black cat can be the most mysterious creature on earth, and in the next it will play to realize it is sheer silliness. This contrast is inspirational gold when you are naming. Perhaps you want to name your cat after the nighttime sky, a favorite food, or a memorable fictional character that you adored throughout childhood.
We have thousands of black cat names listed in this guide split into categories. If you need an adorable, creepy, enchanted, hilarious, sophisticated or one-of-a-kind name these suggestions can help you choose a name that feels right.

How to Pick a Name with Your Black Cat
A few practical things to consider when looking through black cat names.
Choose Something Easy to Say
A name you can pronounce will also be easier to say every day.
Consider Nicknames
It is alright if their name is longer as long there a cute nickname goes along with it. Words like “Midnight” can shrivel down to simply “Middy,” while Blackberry gets a shorter, sweeter ending of just Berry.
Avoid Confusing Names
Avoid choosing a name that’s too close to common commands or words used around your house.
Let Your Cat’s Personality Help
Your cat’s appearance is only a small piece of who they are. The last team is their behavior which can give a better level of naming inspiration.
Don’t Rush
Don’t rush into a decision. Compare it to your new cat and see what comes naturally.
